Ralph's Birthday

Ok, it's time to blow the dust off of this blog. Today was my dog Ralph's 5th birthday. I stopped by the pet store and got him some treats and toys.

Here are his treats, which I can only assume were delicious.

Ralph playing with his new ball.  He promptly popped a hole in it, but was still enjoying playing with it when I left the house this afternoon.

Dog parties are the best.

Verseatile-Love Songs & That Other Stuff

And oh yeah, download my friend's album.  His name is Verseatile and he is a groomsman at my wedding, he also has a good voice, and his dance moves aren't quite as good as mine, and he hasn't featured me on an album yet, but forgive him.  Download link here.

City Slicker

I'm heading to Chicago in a few hours to hangout with a few friends tonight.  I don't go to the city very often, which is pretty sad considering how close I live to the city, and also the fact that I live two blocks away from a train station.

I'm pretty pumped because we are going to hit up DMK Burger for some food.  I heard about this place on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and I'm looking forward to trying some of the food I saw on the episode.

Bison burger with blueberry barbecue sauce?  Count me in.

I'll be back, but for now I'm out.  This suburbanite needs to prepare for his trip to the big city.

Hiatus

I've been pretty bad at updating my blog the past few weeks. Two posts in two weeks is unacceptable.

I'm trying to focus on getting a full time job, and then more updates will come.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but I solemnly swear that I will eventually make up for my absence.

Snack Attack

I saw The Hunger Games this afternoon.

The movie was good.

I was fortunate enough to sit a few seats down from a father and his two kids who managed to eat throughout the entire movie. This has got to be an accomplishment worth noting. I could handle the rustling of popcorn, or the slurp from his daughter's straw as she repeatedly reached the bottom of her Slurpee, but I had to draw the line at opening up what I guessed were Swedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids. Damn girl, at some point you need to quit beating around the bush and just rip the package open. Trying to find a loud part of the movie to open up your final snack isn't doing anyone a favor.

They were battling their own hunger pang at The Hunger Games. Ok, that was too easy, I saw the alley-oop and just needed to slam it home.

Also, a few rows behind me was a woman who gasped each time a child was killed in the movie. Didn't you know what you were getting yourself into when you came to watch this movie about children battling it out to the death? It was as if she expected everyone to survive. And honestly, the movie really wasn't even very violent.

Great, now I'm in the mood for Swedish Fish.

Report To The Dance Floor

I'm getting married this summer. It can be pretty overwhelming dealing with all the details it takes to put a wedding together. Even the little things that you don't think of end up costing you big bucks.

Aside from the tasting we did a few weeks ago, my favorite part of the wedding preparation has been, and will be, putting together a list of songs for our DJ that we want played on the night of our reception.

This has got to be the easiest task on the laundry list of things to do.

Hey Spencer, can you put together 100 songs you want to dance all night to?
Ummm, yes please.

Anyone who knows me will know what to expect come reception time. Lots of 90's hip-hop with some 80's funk sprinkled in. If I had one album purchase to sum myself up, it would be Rick James' "The Definitive Collection(Greatest Hits".

I've been to lots of weddings in the past year, and I've seen my fair share of empty dance floors. When did it become cool to not dance? If I have it my way this dance floor will not be empty. Want to know a quick way to get some feet moving? Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It" that is a timeless classic. I don't care who you are, a fan of the music or not, you hear my man Montell sing that first line of the song and then the beat kicks...you know what time it is.

Speaking of timeless classics, how about Mark Morrison's "Return Of The Mack". Man, if I could ever have a theme song this would be it. Every time I enter a room this song starts playing. That would be my trademark. In fact, I might have to enter the reception to this song and then request that all the guests refer to me as Mack Daddy or Sir Mack the rest of the night. Anyone know a good place to get a cane?

As a first dance I'm lobbying for Adina Howard's "Freak Like Me", Color Me Badd's "I Wanna Sex You Up" or Hi-Five's "She's Playing Hard To Get".

Something tells me I won't win that argument.

The problem with some of these songs is that they are great songs, but impossible to dance to. Your eardrums are having the time of their lives but it doesn't translate well to the dance floor. Case in point(s): Soul For Real(this song is my jam) "Candy Rain", Monica "Don't Take It Personal", SWV "I'm So Into You"...ok I could keep going, but you get the point.

So now that I think about this, maybe it will be a little more difficult than I had imagined.

But pleasebelieve some Rick James will be played...and hopefully some R. Kelly.
